Serendipity
The event of serendipity is felt in lives around the universe every day. It is a powerful actual feeling, often overlooked, and usually not anticipated. Be in readiness for serendipity. It has and will last to happen to you. Philosophizing about its causes I allowance to your discretion.
There I stood in Nagoya, Varnish in April 1993 - the year of the chicken. My wife of one's bosom Lorna and I had been walking the streets carrying bag and baggage for 30 days looking for the supposedly not difficult-to-find English education jobs that existed everywhere before the Japanese housekeeping bubble break open on March 13 - the day we left Atlanta to originate a new life there.
I had called every English people school in the incorporated town of Nagoya looking for be in action, and I had been unable to find a job. English people schools were laying clan off in droves, and the streets were filled with professors and family with masters degrees in English people. There were many people from Europe who were able teachers and multilingual competing with me, a psych greater who had worked as a salesman for jobs.
We were beside a phone booth, staring at the last phone card we had left. Our confidence cards were all charged up, our coin was gone, and if we did not get a job from this last individual we had visited who asked us to call him, we were perfect. We would return place of abode, penniless, in debit, and having failed to find a courtyard to live and operate.
I stuck the card in the phone and made the call - it was a unfair number.
We panicked. I looked up his name in the phone work - luckily it was cool of some of the few Japanese characters I could peruse. I found it. I looked at the phone verse of people with his name, wondering if my dyslexic Japanese bosom friend had transposed his sum up. He had.
I dialed the substantive number, he answered, and we got the job, and a area to live, in the last ten minutes we had left to take up one's quarters in Japan, with our last phone card, with no trust of continuing any to a greater distance, all because the owner of the tiny ryokan (Japanese bed and breakfast) we were staying in gave us one darkness free.
